In line with the mission of University of Malaya to emerge as one of the world's leading tertiary institutions, ASTAR Scrabble Challenge International (ASCI) was first organized in the year 2006 by the First Residential College. Since then, ASCI has been held every year, with a steady growth in the number of participants and popularity in the world of Scrabble. It has become one of the world's largest international Collins event, with around 350 participants from all levels and ages in the last session held in May 2020.

This annual international event is organized by a group of university students who are determined to provide a good platform for enthusiastic Scrabble players around the world to play competitively with one another. It also serves as a channel to garner more interest among the youth, for this mind-challenging yet fun game.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are aware of the difficulties and uncertainties that would arise should we conduct ASCI physically. Hence, we have decided that for the second time since its inception, ASCI 2022 will be held virtually. We would be the second online-rated Scrabble tournament in Malaysia. We hope to have more than 500 participants from all categories and encourage, both international and local players alike, to join us. This unique experience will be a chance for Scrabble fans from all corners of the globe to meet players from countries such as Thailand, Sri Lankan, Hong Kong, Australia, Bangladesh, USA, Singapore, Philippines and South Korea.
